HOW KNOWLEDGE IS TRANSFERRED AND SHARED KNOWLEDGE SHARING THROUGH RESEARCH Knowledge transfer and sharing is through research, innovation and collaboration with local and external stakeholders including global audiences at various forums. The purpose of knowledge transfer and sharing is to identify, safeguard, transfer and share knowledge created for beneficial use. During the period under review, knowledge created was presented and shared to seven (7) South African and International forums such as the Embassy of Belgium, the Kenya Global Bioeconomy Summit and International Water Association’s Digital Water Summit in Spain. Rand Water hosted the first joint symposium under the theme, The Digital Transformation of Water Utilities, focusing on the impact of technology towards smarter, secure and sustainable water. The symposium was attended by approximately 420 attendees from various local and international organisations. The attendees represented technology, science and engineering companies, academic institutions, research organisations such as the Water Research Commission (WRC) and the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and other external stakeholders such as SADC Water Net. The intellectual capital of Rand Water has increased through knowledge created by research performed by the seven (7) Professorial Chairs at three (3) South African universities, namely, University of South Africa, Stellenbosch University and University of Pretoria. The knowledge was captured and shared over 30 research papers published in peer-reviewed journals. Most research studies focused on Natural Sciences and Engineering with the emphasis on Water Purification, Engineering and Digital Technology. Rand Water is committed to award Professorial Chairs in the new financial year 2025/26 to continuously conduct research and increase knowledge creation for the next five (5) years.
