Progress Update

Community Development External skills development programmes.

During the 2022/23 Financial Year, 97 learners were registered on learnership programmes, and 158 for graduate internships, and 34 youths were offered bursaries. R8.2 million was spent on skills development for African, Coloured, and Indian (ACI) employees, which represents 4% of the total payroll. R31.8 million was further spent on unemployed previously disadvantaged people through training initiatives which include internships, apprenticeships, and learnerships. This spend represents 1% of the total payroll. The entity absorbed 16 learners. Out of 13 Board members, 12 are Black and one (1) is Coloured. The percentage of women serving on the Board is 46%, and 54% males. Out of 13 Board members, six (6) are females. In terms of the age group, there are five (5) members between the ages 40 -50 years, and eight (8) members between 50 to 60 years. There are no members who are above 60 years. The Board members have vast skills and experience in the fields of Governance & Compliance, Law, Accountancy and Finance, Audit and Risk Management, Strategic Management, Business Management and Administration, Project Management, Public Finance Management and Administration, Human Capital Management, Business Process Re-Engineering, Marketing and Communication, Engineering, Infrastructure management, Water management, Assets Management, and Environmental management. The Board currently comprises of a total of 13 Board members, i.e., 12 independent Non-Executive members and one (1) Executive member (Chief Executive). Out of the 13 members, 11 members are in their first year of serving on the Board, and two (2) members; Chairperson and Chief Executive (CE) have served on the Rand Water Board for more than six (6) years.
