The centre’s documents consist mostly of magazines and books related to ¿ ction, health, management, business, economy, skills enhancement, computers, engineering, lifestyle and entertainment. The collection also contains annual reports. The materials enable employees to open their minds and add to their knowledge base. Furthermore, the department conducted 4 community outreach programmes attracting a total of 1 265 participants (691male and 574 female). These programmes create awareness about the functions and services of Gauteng provincial libraries and encourage the use of community libraries and promote information sharing, methods and techniques on how reading can be instilled in communities. The department upgraded a total of 21 libraries sites as per the ICT infrastructure development plan . All Rand West Municipality libraries were successfully integrated from the West Rand District Municipality (WRDM) network. All existing systems were fully integrated and new systems were installed to replace the previous municipal hosted systems such as backup, antivirus, email, monitoring tools, and domain infrastructure. In collaboration with the GBN task team, the team installed network infrastructure at the Kromdraai Library, New Kokosi Library, East Driefontein Library, Desmond Tutu Library, New Randfontein Library, Boipatong Library, Rand Vaal Library, Devon Library, Rust De Vaal (computer), New Kokosi Library (computer and GBN Pabx System and phones), Glenharvie Library, Hillshaven Library, Jabulani Library, Kocksoord Library, Mohlakeng Library, Old Randfontein Library, Randgate Library, Simunye Library, Toekomsrus Library (network, GBN Pabx System and phones), Venterspost Library and Westonaria Library (all GBN Pabx System and phones). The GBN project uses earmarked SMMEs for most of their network projects while the contracted agent (Altron Nexus) is part of the project oversight. The development seeks to improve theoverall experience of library users and staff using technology and to attract more people to visit libraries. The internet for users and staff devices is fast and comparable

to international standards with speeds reaching over 20mbps (upload and download) on ¿ bre and microwave sites. The department renewed 5 library subscriptions during the 2019/20 ¿ nancial year. These include the Amlib (Automated Library), an integrated library system consisting of modules to support catalogue enhancements, circulation, interlibrary loans, acquisitions, patron management, reporting and more. SA Media is a SABINET online database that provides subscribers with articles previously published in newspapers; it is a reference database that archives old newspaper articles. Press Reader is an online newspaper and magazine platform with unlimited access to all publications as well as audio publication. Overdrive is a digital distributor of eBooks, audiobooks, music and video titles; community libraries offer this service free of charge to the community. Britannica Online Encyclopaedia for educational research. A total of 27 registry inspections in various Gauteng departments and municipalities were conducted during the ¿ nancial year. They are conducted to ensure proper record keeping by government bodies in compliance with the Gauteng Provincial Archives Act and the regulations of DSD. The inspections took place in the Sedibeng Region; Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Head Of ¿ ce in Johannesburg; City of Tshwane Region Head Of ¿ ce; Desmond Tutu Correctional Youth Centre; Luckhoff Records Centre in Heidelberg; Doctor Fabian and Florence Ribeiro Treatment Centre in Tshwane Merafong Local Municipality; Gauteng Provincial Treasury; DID, 6 sub-registries: Lesedi Local Municipality; Gauteng Department of Economic Development; Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, four sub-registries and Mogale City Local Municipality, 2 sub-registries. The department hosted 3 community outreach programmes on archives during the ¿ nancial year, attracting a total of 1 431 people (634 male and 797 female): the Gauteng Youth Expo from 13–17 June 2019 at NASREC Expo Centre, City of Johannesburg, Region B with 643 participants (253 male and 390 female); the National Archives
