INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPO
ASSETS UNDER CONSTRUCTION REDUCTION The Assets Under Construction (AUC) reduction target for the year under review was set at R1.699 billion and the target was 95%. An actual reduction of R885 million was achieved, translating into an underperformance and a realised score of 52%. While several shutdowns were implemented to integrate infrastructure, these did not significantly contribute to the AUC reduction. The primary contributor was the Eikenhof Flexibility Project, which involved multiple shutdowns and delivered the long-awaited operational flexibility at Eikenhof. This project accounted for approximately R159 million of the total reduction. Importantly, the value derived from this initiative extends well beyond the quantified AUC reduction. Overall, the total AUC reduction of R885 million for the reporting year can be classified into two (2) categories: “Regular” AUC and “Challenging” AUC . • “Regular AUC” is characterised by projects that are still in normal execution towards achieving beneficial use when they reach commissioning stage. • “Challenging AUC” is characterised by projects which have experienced major delays due to various factors such as contractual issues, termination of contract and technological setbacks which affected commissioning. MAINTAINING OUR INFRASTRUCTURE (INFRASTRUCTURE AUGMENTATION) INTEGRATED MAINTENANCE FRAMEWORK The Integrated Maintenance Framework (IMF) outlines how maintenance will be administered. This framework is intended to ensure that assets function as expected when required during their operational life, boosting the availability and reliability of Rand Water assets. Maintenance activities ensure water treatment, pumping, and distribution objectives are continuously and efficiently met. The IMF provides a holistic view of integrating planned and unplanned maintenance and continuous improvement processes to execute maintenance activities effectively in Rand Water. The Table below illustrates a holistic view of the integration of planned, unplanned, and continuous improvement processes to execute maintenance activities in Rand Water effectively. Rand Water undertakes planned maintenance annually during the low-water demand season, which falls between June and July. This maintenance programme encompasses: • Conducting scheduled maintenance. • Allowing power suppliers to perform their scheduled maintenance. • Replacement of defective equipment at the different plants affecting all systems at different times. • Completing and commissioning augmentation and upgrading projects. To ensure adequate customer preparedness, all shutdowns are communicated 21 days prior to the outage. The following Maintenance Plan/ Shutdown schedule was implemented during the year under review.
