INTEGRATED ANNUAL REPO
SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT The Rand Water Foundation implements developmental projects aimed at progressively addressing key societal challenges, including water and sanitation access, skills shortages, poverty, unemployment, and entrepreneurship. These initiatives contribute to sustainable livelihoods by empowering communities to participate in economic activities and fostering self sufficiency. The projects are socio-economic in nature, driving community development through improved access to water and sanitation, job creation, promotion of hygienic living conditions, and skills transfer through on-the-job training. They also support efforts to alleviate hunger and reduce household poverty. During the 2024/25 financial year, the Foundation partnered with 33 small businesses for service delivery, incubated 35 SMMEs for WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) service delivery, and collaborated with 18 NGOs, 15 focused on WASH and three (3) on education support. These partnerships were instrumental in enhancing project execution and maximising impact. Through its Socio-Economic Development (SED) initiatives, Rand Water empowers communities to progressively participate in formal economic activities, thereby contributing to broader economic transformation. In the 2024/25 financial year, a total of 2,082 jobs were created for local communities through projects execution. These are decent, temporary employment opportunities that provide valuable work experience, facilitate on-the-job and business skills transfer, and play a critical role in alleviating household poverty. SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS The table below outlines the socio-economic development infrastructure projects, where local enterprises were actively engaged. These initiatives are designed to provide meaningful opportunities for small businesses to participate in major infrastructure developments, with the dual objective of stimulating economic growth and creating employment within local communities.
