Overview of Performance of the KwaZulu-Natal Chamber for the 2023/2024 Financial Year

Post Provisioning Through extensive engagement between the MEC and Organised Labour, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) was able to retain 90 057 educator posts in the province for the 2024 academic year, with the MEC further declaring the conversion or permanent appointment of 500 Grade R practitioners into state-paid posts with effect from April 2023. Teacher Well-Being Seminar The Chamber convened a successful Teacher Well-Being Seminar in eight districts of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education, including uMgungundlovu District, uMzinyathi, iLembe, uGu, Pinetown, Harry Gwala, and Zululand districts. Presentations covered topics that educators highly appreciated, such as the presentation on the Handbook for Teachers Safety and Security in South African Schools presented by SACE, stress management facilitated by a Yeyeye Human Development Consultant, personal financial management facilitated by Old Mutual, and a presentation from Thuthuzela Care Centre. Attendance by both school and office-based educators was very good. Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign The KZN Chamber continues to receive Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign reports quarterly. A provincial steering committee is soon to be launched in the province to help address the challenges faced by the QLTC task team. Although stakeholders have not been responding positively to invitations to participate in the QLTC’s work, the task team is working hard to mobilise and encourage stakeholder participation.
