PILIR Implementation reports were presented at quarterly meetings, and a workshop was conducted to clarify and address policy implementation challenges identified by labour parties, and general problems encountered with the management of sick leave and long incapacity leave. Provisioning of School Infrastructure The report highlighted that a survey was conducted to determine, among others, how many schools have Mathematics labs and their utilisation at schools, with 233 schools responding to the survey. Following the survey, 47 secondary schools were identified for Mathematics Lab verification. The verification process started in May 2023, with a detailed report of verified schools provided, and 27 out of 47 schools were verified to date. Vetting of Educators A report on the vetting of employees at schools against the National Register for Sex Offenders (NRSO) in line with the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, 2021 was published. An update on progress made highlighted that: • 54 021 is the provincial target, with 22 989 forms received from schools thus far, translating to 31 032 still outstanding • 22 989 forms were captured and submitted to SAPS for SAPS69i and, thus far, 8 707 were handled and returned, translating to 14 282 applications still with SAPS. • Findings on 8 707 included, among others, 8 058 with no illicit activity and 649 with illicit activities identified for crimes committed between 1985 and 2023. • Approximately 7 612 were submitted to the Department of Justice, with 218 certificates issued by the Department of Justice, all found to be clean from NRSO as follows: o Motheo 191, Xhariep 1 o Lejweleputswa 9 and Fezile Dabi 17; Translating to 7 394 being with the Department of Justice to date. Strategy to overcome areas of under-performance STANCO and the Chamber will explore and discuss interventions on how to strengthen the Employment Equity Forum.
