EDUCATION LABOUR RELATIONS COUNCIL | 2023/24 ANNUAL REPORT

INTRODUCTION

RECRUITMENT/APPOINTMENTS The Council filled three vacant positions during the period under review: • Provincial Office Administrator: NW- commenced in May 2023 • Supply Chain Management Officer – commenced in May 2023 • Provincial Manager: GP - commenced in June 2023

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS MATTERS • One employee received a written warning letter for double payment.

FURTHER STUDIES AND SKILLS DEVELOPMENT During the period under review, the Council provided the following training: • 13 employees attended SHE training • 1 employee attended Minutes Taking training • 1 employee attended Contract Management and Service Level Agreement training

During the period under review, the Council provided financial assistance for further studies to five employees who enrolled for the following qualifications:

• MCom Computer Auditing • Advanced Computer Short Course • MCom Information System Technology • BCom Hons- Industrial and Organisational Psychology • Master of Laws – LLM (Labour Law)

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT All staff signed performance agreements. Managers and employees for each department concluded performance assessments for all quarters. The Moderation Committee convened its meetings, and the PMS reports were submitted to the General Secretary on time.

EMPLOYEE WELLNESS During the period under review, the Council conducted the following Employee Wellness events:

• Team building in commemoration of Youth Day (June 16). Employees were given performance roles and TikTok challenges. The performance roles were relevant to Youth Day. • Employee Wellness Day. The Council sourced a service provider that came on-site to conduct various health tests for employees. This type of event assists employees to stay updated with their health status. Provincial employees also participated in the same activity with assistance from Dischem and Clicks. The Council further celebrated Spring Day. • Team Building. This was a strategic planning event conducted by an external service provider. The activities that were covered were quad biking, zip-lining, and game driving. There was also a handing out of funny awards based on an employee’s character. These events yield good results as they improve communication with staff and help them get to know each other better.
