3.11 HIV/AIDS & Health Promotion Programmes

The Department’s dedicated Employee Health and Wellness Programme sub-directorate oversees the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the programme at the Head Office and all regional offices. The sub-directorate consists of nine (9) personnel servicing the EHWP, with four based at regional offices. The Compensation of Employees budget for Head Office staff for the 2024/2025 financial year is R4,457,000.00, with actual expenditure of R2,512,994.24. Additionally, R1,300,000.00 was allocated for goods and services, with an expenditure of R933.80 for the same period. The Employee Assistance Programme is implemented through the wellness Management pillar as guided by the DPSA EHW Strategic Framework. The Department offers a workplace Employee Assistance programme that is effective with a current caseload of 125 internal cases. In addition, the Department has contracted Lyra to provide external counselling services to employees and their dependants, with a current caseload of 53. The total number of internal and external cases managed to date is 178. The Department’s Health and Productivity management policy is in place and caters for the following: • Support for short/long-term ill health, incapacity management and ill-health retirement, • Awareness and promotion of mental health and resilience building, • Routine onsite health checks and screening services for chronic and lifestyle diseases and • Management of non-Communicable & Communicable Diseases.
