Figure 8: Leadership Development Programmes Executive Development Programmes Rand Water Executives continue to refine their business acumen and skills through several initiatives including the Business and Executive Coaching programme. The following programmes were implemented in the year under review. • GIBS–Executive Coaching for Rand Water Board • Team Coaching–Top Management Committee (TMC) • Investment in Excellence - Leadership Mindset Blueprint (Strategic Human Capital and General Manager Operations’ Office) Internal Bursaries Schemes Internal employees are granted an opportunity to study various formal qualifications directly linked to their roles, with the aim of acquiring skills and knowledge that will be invested back in the organisation, in resolving organisational challenges and risks, and to allow the employees to be more efficient in their roles. During the period under review, 127 Rand Water employees were awarded bursaries to pursue their studies in different higher institutions of learning. Youth Development Programmes: Internships, Learnership and Bursaries Rand Water implements internships and learnerships aimed at unemployed youth in order to develop future water sector skills. Graduates in training, experiential students, external bursaries, and learnerships are included in these learning programmes. The learnership programme typically lasts for 12 months and provides learners with a recognised national qualification that is aligned with SAQA requirements. In addition, we provide bursaries to deserving youth through the External Bursary Scheme. This is a platform where the organisation creates a pipeline, guided by Strategic Workforce Planning, for the future skills that are required by the organisation and the water sector at large. The programme is for the unemployed youth pursing their full-time qualifications in various Universities across the country. During the 2022/23 Financial Year, the number of learners registered for learnerships was 97, and 158 for graduates’ internships. We also offered bursaries to 34 youths. The graph below indicates the number of external youths who were offered these development programmes against the set targets, as part of Youth Development Programme.
