• Five comedy showcases in the ¿ ve Corridors of the province were hosted bene ¿ tting 28 comedians (24 young male and 4 adult male). They took place on November 2019 at Lefelong Café, Bophelong in Sedibeng; on 21 November 2019 at Basement Shisanyama, Atteridgeville in Tshwane; on 24 November 2019 at Rooftop Junction,Mohlakeng,West Rand; on27November 2019 at Hang AWT 1632, Tembisa in Ekurhuleni; and on 6 December 2019 at Lethabong, Soweto in Johannesburg. During the reporting year, the department ¿ nancially supported 2 sector initiatives . The ¿ rst was the successful hosting of the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) at Sun City Resort in North West Province on 1 June 2019. The MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and of ¿ cials from the department attended in support of all Gauteng- based nominees. The department hosted the MEC’s SAMA Winners’ Gala Dinner on 27 June 2019 at Sandton Sun Hotel, in Sandton. The aim of the event was to welcome back all Gauteng-based nominees, congratulate the winners in various categories and encourage those who did not win to continue working hard. The second initiative, the Moshito Music Conference and Exhibition, a music sector initiative with the theme Inzalabantu – Unchained was held from 4–7 September 2019 at the Old Fort, Constitution Hill. The department provided ¿ nancial support to the value of R10 million in 2019/20 ¿ nancial year to support 7 small, medium and large size live arts and culture events . This critical intervention not only cultivated jobs in the music sector and performing industries but increased job opportunities in directly and indirectly related industries such as technical and production services, security, catering and hospitality. Support was provided to the Back to the City Hip Hop Festival 2019 (signature event) held at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg on 27 April 2019; Kungwini Music and Arts Festival (community event); Die Braai, Bronkhorstspruit, Tshwane on 21 December 2019; the 7th Sedibeng Summer Festival (local event) at the Emerald Casino in Sedibeng on 22 December 2019; DJ Shimza’s

to exhibit their artworks from 14–18 September 2019 at the Vereeniging Civic Theatre in Vereeniging in Sedibeng. The solo visual art exhibition “Titus Matiyane Cities of the World Solo Exhibition” was hosted from 20–31 March 2020 at the Women’s Living Heritage Monument in Tshwane with one male visual artist bene ¿ tting from the exhibition. A visual arts workshop and exhibition was hosted from 16 – 19 March 2020 at the Moses Molelekwa Arts Centre with a total of 10 young visual artists (9 male and 1 female). The department hosted 7 Puisano Live Music Showcases in the ¿ ve regions of the province, bene ¿ tting 113 emerging musicians (82 male and 31 female). They were hosted from 4–6 July 2019 at the National Arts Festival, Makhanda, Eastern Cape with the attendance of Ncamisa and the Band; on 21 July 2019 at Kate’s Place in Vanderbijlpark in Sedibeng District; 28 July 2019 at MCCOY’S Lifestyle in Soweto in the City of Johannesburg; 8 August 2019 at AYEP YEP Lifestyle in Pretoria in the City of Tshwane; 18 August 2019 at Miri’s Pub and Grill in Carletonville, West Rand District; and 25 August 2019 at Igagasi Shisanyama, Alberton in the City of Ekurhuleni. The Puisano Band Karabo Mohlala Quartet showcased at the Mangaung Cultural Festival (MACUFE) on 9-10 October 2019, at the Arts and Craft Stage; 11 October 2019, at the Homebrew Stage; and 12 October 2019, at MACUFE Main Stage. During the period under review, the department implemented the following two performing arts programmes (poetry and comedy showcases), bene ¿ tting a total of 59 performing artists (46 male, 12 female and 1 LGBTIQA): • Five poetry sessions were hosted bene ¿ tting 31 poets (18 male, 12 female and 1 LGBTIQA). The events took place on 20 August 2019 at Sawubona, Chiawelo, Soweto in the City of Joburg; on 29 August 2019 at the Wolf and Bravo Pizzeria in Pretoria in the City of Tshwane; on 14 September 2019 at Duduza Library in Duduza, in the City of Ekurhuleni; on 15 September 2019 at the Backyard Art Gallery, Bookshop and Restaurant in Kagiso on the West Rand; and on 22 September 2019 at Woza Africa Centre in Ratanda in Sedibeng District.
