In Appreciation:

Jagdeesh (Jack) Bhana

Jagdeesh (Jack) Bhana was born in Krugersdorp but grew up in Bethal, a small town in Mpumalanga. He completed his primary school years in Bethal but had to complete high school in Actonville, Benoni. There was no high school for Indian and Coloured children in Bethal and they had to go to places with high school facilities for Indians. He completed his Matric in 1974 and continued his tertiary education at the University of Durban Westville. In 1978 he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Jack started working in 1979 for a small auditing practice and had to travel from Laudium, where he was boarding, to Johannesburg. During his stay in Laudium he was involved with the White Block Residents Association. He also served as a treasurer for the Laudium Bursary Committee and Laudium Inter-Primary Sports Association. Jack married in 1983 and moved to Lenasia from Laudium. In 1991 he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. His working career started with Goldstuck Herscovitz, a small auditing practice, where he served his articles. In 1986 he moved to Papilsky Hurwitz, a medium-sized auditing practice and in 1992 he joined Pema Lakha as an Audit Manager. He then decided to leave the auditing profession and in September 1996 he joined Transnet Rail Engineering, a division of Transnet, in their finance department. In 2009 he joined the Lenmed group as the Group Financial Accountant till his retirement in 2018. He has, however, continued to work for Lenmed on a contract basis. On the sporting side, Jack played cricket, tennis, table tennis, badminton, and squash at a social level. Soccer was played at club level and in his final year at primary school, he captained the school side. Currently he enjoys watching all types of sports on TV. Jack started playing golf in 1992 and was one of the golfers who attended the meeting

where the idea of forming a social golf club emanated. At the inaugural meeting of Lotus Golf Club, he was nominated as treasurer and has held this position ever since. It goes without saying that the position had its challenges. He has ensured that the Club’s financial records have been meticulously kept up to date (sincerely appreciated by club members) and has served the Club without reservation. On this 30 th anniversary, the Lotus Golf Club would like to thank you for your valuable contribution and for being such an integral part of the organisation. This resilience is truly commendable. Your passion, perseverance, and professionalism have made a lasting impact on our team and success. Thank you for your 30 years of service and dedication.
