Obituary of Manish (Monty) Devchand 25 th February 1967 – 10 th March 2023
In the vibrant tapestry of life, certain individuals leave an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of everyone they encounter. One such person was my childhood friend Monty, whose life was a blend of remarkable success, profound love, and unwavering generosity. His untimely departure from this world left a void that echoed the sentiments of all who knew him—a successful businessman, a cherished family man, and a beacon of warmth and affection. He had a knack for entrepreneurship, displaying an innate understanding of the family business in Fietas, that would later cement his success with the Laxmi’s in Lenasia. A visionary with the rare ability to turn challenges into opportunities. Under his watch, his family business flourished, earning him respect and admiration within the community he so lovingly served. Yet, he wore his achievements lightly, never allowing them to overshadow his human connections. At home, he was the pillar that sustained his family—a devoted husband and a guiding star to his two boys Dyaan and Ishaan. The love story he shared with his wife, Rakhee, was one of mutual respect, unwavering support, and endless affection. His role as a father was seated deeply in his identity; he shaped his sons with a gentle hand, nurturing their dreams with the same passion that fuelled his own. In every engagement with them, his presence was a portrait of paternal love. His philanthropic efforts were as natural to him as breathing. He believed in giving back to the community that had given him so much. Through numerous charitable entities in Lenasia, he touched the lives of countless individuals, striving to uplift the less fortunate and champion causes close to his heart. With humility and grace, he worked to make the world a better place, firmly holding onto the notion that true success is measured by the difference one makes in the lives of others. Amid his bustling life, he found sanctuary in his passions—writing reading, and playing golf. His words whether penned in silence or shared amongst friends, resonated with the depth of his insights and the breadth of his experiences. Golf courses were his refuge, where more importantly, laughter and camaraderie with friends directed the next shot with a humorous competitive edge. Even when playing with a not-so-familiar group, he, with his charisma, soon converted them into his ardent devotees. His warm and loving personality was perhaps his greatest legacy. His laughter was infectious, his counsel sought after, and his company cherished. Friends and family alike basked in the glow of his presence, feeling the genuine care that overflowed from his heart. To be loved by him was to understand the true essence of friendship and kinship - a bond forged not merely by shared history but by shared values and interests. In reflecting upon my dear friend’s life, there’s comfort in the legacy he’s left behind—a life lived with intention, love, and kindness that ripples through the lives he’s touched. His memory lives on in the gentle wisdom shared with his children, in the thriving businesses he built, and in the countless acts of kindness that defined his existence.Though his time on earth was cut short, his impact will endure, and the memories we shared will forever be a testament to the remarkable man he was.
