9. OCCUPATIONAL, SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT

The Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHAS), 1993 (Act 85 of 1993) requires the employer to provide and maintain, as far as is reasonably practical, a healthy working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of its employees. The Council ensured that it remained as far as possible compliant with the OHAS Act and thus ensured statutory appointments. It maintained a functional SHE Committee that monitored activities around occupational safety and health and reported to governance structures on a quarterly basis. 10. CODE OF CONDUCT The Council’s Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy articulates the values the Council wishes to foster in its employees and clarifies the desired behaviour.

The Council has not experienced any non-compliance with the policy to date.

11. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY As part of its social responsibility activities, the Council donated non-perishable foods, blankets and a microwave oven to The Inn Old Age Home in Pretoria.
