The first G20 Sherpa Meeting under the Italian Presidency was of strategic importance as it allows

for the incoming Presidency to articulate their theme and

priorities for the year, provides the platform for “Agenda Setting” by G20 members on key global issues that are deemed strategic for the G20 to address and provides the opportunity for South Africa to ensure that the strategic priorities for South Africa, Africa and developing countries broadly are reflected in the Agenda of the incoming Presidency South Africa in its interventions therefore focussed on affordable access to vaccines, debt relief, illicit financial flows and an equal treatment of the adaptation, mitigation and financing global goals under the UNFCCC´s Paris Agreement.
