• The theme was introduced as “BRICS@15: lntra-BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation and Consensus”. The incoming Chair expressed intention to lead a review of BRICS institutions and mechanisms in order to take stock of and rationalise its activities to improve coherence, efficacy and outcomes. There was also an elaboration on the four areas of focus during the current Chairship for which the intention is to reform the multilateral system, counter terrorism cooperation, application of digital and technological solutions for achievement of the SDGs, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges • South Africa’s participation in the above-mentioned meeting was aligned with the strategic objectives of South Africa’s BRICS membership BRICS cooperation continues to provide tangible benefits for South Africa through cooperation in science, technology and innovation, health and education, as well as through BRICS financing for infrastructure development, capacity-building, research, education and skilling, trade, investment and tourism opportunities
