7. The Sixth Meeting of the BRICS Deputy Ministers/Special Envoys on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) from 25 to 26 August 2020 The meeting exchanged views and shaped consensus on: • the current political and security affecting the two regions, focussing on developments regarding the situation in Libya and Eastern Mediterranean; Syria, Lebanon and the Middle East Peace Process (MEPP) • the situation in the Gulf; the conflict in Yemen; and the situation in Iraq. They reaffirmed that the crises in these regions should be addressed through political mechanisms and in accordance with international law and the UN Charter • underlying their deliberations was the principle that lasting peace could only be achieved with due respect for the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of the countries in this region situation and the humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflicts
