South Africa is not currently a member of the HRC and therefore has no voting rights 14. Prepared for and participated in the 79th Session (28th Extraordinary Session) of the WIPO on 3 December 2020 to appoint the senior management team of WIPO under the new Director General South Africa nominated a candidate for the senior management team, but the nomination was not successful. Of the eight nominees who were considered by the committee, only one African national was appointed to the position of Assistant Director-General in the Global Challenges and Partnerships Sector 15. South Africa presided over the UNSC during December 2020.
