The implementation of OHS within the Department isn’t without challenges, a lack of sufficient financial resources and an increasing staff turnover rate of OHS officers were a hindrance in implementing key elements of OHS and in ensuring full compliance with the OHS Act (Act 85 of 1993). Furthermore, a shortage of PPE in some of the regions, including work tools, employee behaviour and poor safe workplace practices contributed to the high rate of major injuries and incidents at work. 7.
