A Commemorative March in Tshwa
O n the 09th August 2014, in Tshwane, at the Union Buildings, multitudes ascended to the capital city of the Republic of South Africa, to honour and commemorate the tenacious struggles fought by many women, including the 1956 Marchers. This marked the 60th Anniversary since women marched and said enough is enough with Pass Laws which were meant to accelerate racial policies of the apartheid regime. The event resumed with a long march from Lillian Ngoyi Square to the union buildings, led by different security forces in the country. A young band from Cullinan and Mamelodi led the procession with precision to the applause of onlookers in the city’s streets. The South African President, His Excellency Jacob Zuma in the national event held in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal said ‘Women earned this day, based on that historic anti-pass march by around 20 000 women to the seat of government, the Union Buildings in Pretoria. They made their presence felt against discriminatory and racist laws’. President Zuma said “This is in celebration of the struggles of the women over the decades and a rejuvenation of our commitment to strive for a society free of all kinds of discrimination,
