RAND WATER ANNUAL REPORT 2023

SAFETY OF OUR EMPLOYEES (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality - SHEQ) Abiding to one of our core values of caring, the wellbeing of our people remains our number one priority in our pursuit for Zero Harm vision. While we strive for producing good quality water, this can never be at the expense of health and safety of our people. Financial Year 2022/23 has seen a sharp increase in disabling injuries. Work still needs to be done to ensure that we invest a lot of time and effort in making sure that we decrease the number of disabling injuries. As Rand Water embarks on infrastructure development, the Zero Harm in these construction projects has not gone unnoticed. The biggest reservoir was unveiled by the Honourable Minister of Water and Sanitation and this project was completed without any major incidents. Rand Water is deeply saddened by the fatal road accident, and we express our heartfelt condolence to the family and friends of a colleague we lost while on duty. We set our Disabling Injuries Frequency Rate (DIFR) target at 0.31 for the 2022/23 Financial Year. This target was not achieved as the DIFR was 0.35. Despite the challenges we faced in the last Financial Year, our Health and Safety Management System (ISO 45001:2018) was maintained through external audit conducted by SABS. In the coming year, efforts will be intensified with more focus on operational discipline and preventing high severity injuries. The graph below depicts Rand Water performance over the five-year period:
